The perfect shooting location

You certainly know  this – we scroll in Instagram and see a great photo after another – and the shooting locations are always that amazing. But how do you find the perfect location?!

I admit, it is not easy to find the right background for the photo. But it is not impossible neither. Often Arzu and me, we do not look for the shooting location, but it shows up on our way cruising through the city. As we walk, we keep our eyes open and when we see any interesting spot we stop right away. But it also happens that we deceived ourselves in the first moment and it will not be the final scenery.

In my opinion the most important thing is to match the location with the outfit. I mean, for example, not to combine an urban look with deepest nature, and vice versa. Of course, opposites are beautiful and change in style is also something great. Everyone knows best who follows my outfits. A small clash with the style makes the look exciting and draws attention to it.

However, you have to be more cautious selecting the proper setting, because an environment that is unrelated to the style can disturb the look and the viewers do not feel the mood that should come over. Even too playful and overloaded places can quickly distract the focus from the clothes. It is the same with background colors that do not fit to the clothes and even destroy the entire image. My rule of thumb is always, the fancier and more colorful the outfit, the quieter and more plain the background should be. Great walls of buildings are ideal for this, but they should not be too boring.

It is important to get a certain harmonious interplay between outfit and surroundings. If you are convinced of the scenery, then go and grab your cameras and start shooting.

There is no right or wrong in the end and beauty is perceived differently. It was important for me to share my personal guide with you since I’m asked  very often how I get to the shooting locations and what I’m paying attention to when chosing the photo background.

Please find some of my favorite locations above.

Enjoy Shooting!

Your,

Mr. Gentleguy
